Substance over Appearances?
Some mothers instil strong self-confidence in their daughters.
A sense of self-possession.
A personal pride in who they are and what they can do.
It’s a legacy they can carry on to their daughters,
whether they choose to have children, or not.
My daughter doesn’t care much about clothes or appearances.
She is a kick-ass lawyer who makes the world a better place.
She tells clients how it is honestly, the uncomfortable truth.
She represents people striving for the best deal possible.
In less than 4 years, she’s made herself indispensable to the firm.
Last week a judge tore down another party-
for not giving her enough time to prepare.
She didn’t ask him to.
That was unusual.
I remember my Dad saying:
‘If she ever wants to get ahead,
she’ll have to start smartening herself up.
Wear more make-up, better clothes, high-heels, and lose some weight.’
Regardless of not doing much of those things,
my daughter couldn’t do any better in her career,
or in the legal community…
