Have a Q and A with yourself:

What did I do wrong?

How may I have hurt or injured someone personally?

How long did the mistake last for?
Is it still ongoing with flow-on effects and negative ramifications?

How bad did it get?
Be honest and rate it on a 1–10 scale from minor to ugly, life-changing devastation.

Don’t whip yourself into a vile, self-destructive mood:

1. Forgive- 1st to yourself, 2nd to the other party

2. Apologise- 1st to yourself, 2nd the other party or everyone involved

3. Admit mistakes, own them no excuses -1st yourself, 2nd everyone

4. This takes away some hurt, hate, regret, and inclination to retaliate

5. Allow relief and healing to wash over you — be civil, smile, shake hands

6. Say a genuine thank you to all involved for their understanding

7. Feel better, it’s past, try not to do this again, let it go, and move on
